Day 295, Picture 295, October 31, 2010 – Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

I took this picture in Door County this morning just before we left for home. I hope everyone had a great Halloween and got a lot of treats and very few tricks.

I just finished the A to Z challenge in the Project 365. It was fun and I am looking forward to maybe find another challenge to add some depth to the Picture-Of-The-Day project.

Day 294, Picture 294, October 30, 2010 – Z is for ZZ Top

Z is for ZZ Top

OK, this might be a stretch. But Door County does not have many Z’s. Not one zebra or zeppelin in the county. And I do not know if ZZ Top ever sit foot in Door County. So I had to stretch things a little for my final picture in the A to Z challenge. Yes, this is the end to my A to Z challenge. I did take a picture a day and it was the letter picture for the day. It was fun. Now on to another challenge.

Day 293, Picture 293, October 29, 2010 – Y is for Yuppie Yachts

Y is for Yuppie Yachts

I do not know if these Yachts are owned by yuppies or not, it is the only Y word I could think of to go with Yachts after 2 glasses of wine. 😉

Today was another fine day in Door County. The sun was not out as much as I wanted for photography, but that is life. We spent part of the day taking the ferry to Washington Island and back. That was an interesting ride through Death’s Door. It would have been even more fun two days ago when the wind was over 65 MPH!

We did get to talk to our friends; Debbie and Jim, that run the Island Outpost on Washington Island. They are sweet people. If you ever get to Washington Island, stop in and say hi. Their store is just around the corner from the ferry dock. We had a great lunch at The Danish Mill and did not spend as much time as we wanted on Washington Island, but again, that is life and you roll with what you are dealt.

Day 292, Picture 292, October 28, 2010 – X is for X Marks The Spot

X is for X Marks The Spot

X is marking the spot that ended up being our first stop in Door County. We will be spending a few days in Door County. It should be fun finding the rest of the alphabet pictures. Door County is one of our favorite places to visit.

Day 291, Picture 291, October 27, 2010 – W is for Wisconsin Working Wife

W is for Wisconsin Working Wife

It is just after 6 am this morning and Ann is off to work. It is still dark out this time of the year. She has a 30 to 45 minute drive to work, time to gear up for the work day. Since Ann has this long drive and mostly on back roads, she has an SUV to help keep her out of the ditches in the long Wisconsin Winters. I get the ‘Hope it makes it to work car’ for my work trip. Ann has been at the same job for over 35 years, so I guess she likes it.

When I started the A to Z challenge subset of the Picture-Of-The-Day project, I did not think about getting a picture of each family member into the A to Z sequence. So the A day went by and that is why Ann is the W day for Wife instead of the A day for Ann. Myself, Princess and Newbie have had their days.

Day 290, Picture 290, October 26, 2010 – V is for Vigorous Valiant Voting

V is for Vigorous Valiant Voting

<on soapbox> If you do not Vote, you cannot bitch. So get out and vote next week. If you vote, at least attempt to be informed. <off soapbox>

In Wisconsin the political signs spring up more profusely than spring flowers this time of the year. The interesting thing I see is they no longer say ‘VOTE’ for whoever. They just say the name and what office they are running for. Maybe today’s politicians just want you to know who they are and not necessarily vote for them. They also no longer list their party on the signs. That too is interesting.

There are a lot of V words I could have used for today’s picture, but I thought this subject was more of a current subject. As this alphabetical challenge within the Picture-Of-The-Day project comes to the end of the alphabet, I wonder what next challenge will pop up to make this project more interesting.

Day 289, Picture 289, October 25, 2010 – U is for the UW Union

U is for the UW Union

The University of Wisconsin Union has been around since 1907. There is nothing better than sitting on the terrace, having a beer and looking over the lake. The Union offers much to students and Madison as a whole. One of the trademarks of the Union Terrace are the chairs. They are colorful and unique. The Union is a fun place for all ages.

Day 288, Picture 288, October 24, 2010 – T is for Tees & Trees

T is for Tees & Trees

Today’s Picture-Of-The-Day had hundreds of possibilities. Tattoos, telephones, tires, tacos, tarantulas, tar, tools, tackle and more were possibilities for today. Today in Wisconsin was one of those rainy, cloudy and dreary Fall days. The Fall colors were not great but with Photoshop, I could bring out the little color there were in the trees.

Day 287, Picture 287, October 23, 2010 – S is for Steam Locomotive

S is for Steam Locomotive

It was dark when I left my house this morning. I had a few hours sleep, but I was on not only a mission to get an S Picture-Of-The-Day, but to see an old Steam Locomotive. Edgerton Wisconsin has the Sterling North Book and Film Festival. This year, the author, Chris Van Allsburg who wrote the Children’s book Polar Express, rode into town on this old steam locomotive. The old Soo Line workhorse was only going to be in Edgerton a for a few more hours before heading out. I had to be to work soon, but the shot was worth the driving and little sleep.

Day 286, Picture 286, October 22, 2010 – R is for Rockdale Rapid Rapids

R is for Rockdale Rapid Rapids

These rapids are part of the Koshkonong Creek that runs through the middle of Rockdale Wisconsin. Rockdale is just outside Cambridge Wisconsin. Cambridge is outside pf Madison Wisconsin. There are just over 200 people living in Rockdale.

I liked to drive through this little village on the way to Cambridge or Jefferson Wisconsin. The sound in the summer of the water running over the rapids is peaceful. The leaves in the fall add color to the scene. It is just a nice drive on back roads.
