Day 387, January 31, 2011 – Winter Pony

Winter Pony

A winter storm is moving in today. On the way home I stopped to get this picture of a pony in the field with the snow flurries coming down strong. The pony was looking about in the snow. I wonder how much snow we will be getting in the next day or so. We might not get out Wednesday. But that might not happen either. So we could get anywhere from 2 inches to 20 inches. Most likely around 10 to 12 inches. Plus, high winds. An interesting next few days. As long as the Internet stays up, I am OK with getting snowed in. Oh, that requires no electrical outages too. I guess we will just have to see what happens.

Day 386, January 30, 2011 – Winter Reflection

Winter Reflection

Sometimes things work out the way you planned. My first Sunday of the new Sunday through Thursday schedule at my real job. I realized on the way to work, I should shoot something before work. As normal, I did not have a lot of extra time on the way to work. But I thought with the sun out, I wanted a reflection shot. I knew of one place on the way to work that might have open water, enough for a reflection shot. It was a little out of my way, well a lot out of my way. But, it was my only chance reflection shot. Sure enough, there was open water and a nice reflection. I could not spend the time I wanted there to take a lot of different angles or locations, because I had to get to work. Work is really getting in the way of life again. But I did get a few shots like this one. With over a foot of snow coming in the next few days, a nice sunny shot will keep me going for a few weeks.

Day 385, January 29, 2011 – Content Shop Cat

Content Shop Cat

We just finished a 12 hour stint on the shopping trail. I was proud of Ann. She is not a professional shopper like myself, so this was over the top for her. We did over 17 stops at different stores, ate lunch and dinner, stopped for gas and dropped off a Mac to the owner, then fixed his desktop Macintosh’s backup. We did a lot for the local economy today.

During one of the stops, at the Mac Cat, a local pet store, we saw all three of the shop cats snoozing away on different spots. This one was so content just to lay there. We picked up several items, petted the shop cats, took their pictures and hit the trail.

It was my first Saturday off in a long time, so we were enjoying the time together. A fun day. Ann now looks like this shop cat, all pooped out and snoozing away.

Day 384, January 28, 2011 – Winter Stream

Winter Stream

What a reflective day. My first Friday off for some time. My schedule changed from Tuesday through Saturday to Sunday through Thursday. My schedule is now better, not great, but better than it has for sometime. I had appointments, Web work, Art work, etc. So today was full and since I had to rebuild my iTunes database of over 15,000 songs, I had some down time to reflect on this Friday.

25 years ago the space shuttle Challenger explodes just after launch. The first true civilian astronaut is among those who perished just 53 seconds after liftoff. That was one of the tragedies that sticks with you.

Today’s Picture-Of-The-Day is a winter stream reflection. This is one of the places I like to go when a picture just does not present itself to me. I like reflections. I like water. I do not like snow, but it is Wisconsin in January, we will have snow.

Day 383, January 27, 2011 – Ms. White Paws

Ms. White Paws

It is nice to come home after a long day at work and be greeted by one to three critters before you even get in the door. Yes they are looking for dinner, but they still want to see you even if you do not have any food. It snowed again today, then the sun was out for a little while, then it clouded over before I headed for home. My thoughts of a nice sunny picture did not work out. But, coming home to critters greeting you, talking to you and letting you know they like you did put a great finish to my work day.

Day 382, January 26, 2011 – Indoor Flyer

Indoor Flyer

Tonight was play night. I know I should have stayed home and worked on my art for the Garden Expo, my next art show, but flying called to me. Even if it was RC flight and indoors, it still drew me towards Brodhead tonight with my neighbor Pat. We blew down to the Brodhead High School gym for some indoor flying. He with his Champ and me with my Champ & Helicopter. We had a timetable. In at eight when it opened for flying, out by nine to get home by 9:30 for his kids. I was having so much fun flying both aircraft, that I forgot to get a picture for my Picture-Of-The-Day project. I captured this image of one of the aircraft as I was putting away my Champ. I did not know if they would be useful or not. But I liked this image because it looks like an Air Racer racing around a pylon. I had a ton of fun and now should make it through work another day.

Day 381, January 25, 2011 – Red Barn in Winter

Red Barn in Winter

After work and on the way home, the sun came out for a very short while. I captured the red barn in bright sunlight and before I was home, it had clouded over as the sun started to set. Today I was lucky. I worked on this image a while getting the effect I wanted for this scene. There is something about barns that draw me to them to photography them. I did spend the first 10 years of my life on a farm and maybe the lazy summer days spent in the barn helping my Dad milk the cows. Or climbing around in the hay loft full of fresh hay smells. Maybe these memories are what draws me to barns. Maybe living in rural Wisconsin all these years draws me to barns. Whatever it is, I enjoy photographing barns and farm scenes.

Day 380, January 24, 2011 – Blending In

Blending In

Not a good day for pictures. A dreary and cloudy day with very little light.I took the long way home hoping to find something to take a picture of. I did see this hawk sitting in a tree blending in. It looked like it was having the same problem I was, finding something you can capture. Me a picture, the hawk dinner. So I captured him and I hope he got dinner.

Day 379, January 23, 2011 – Sunny Winter Creek

Sunny Winter Creek

My last Sunday off today as my schedule changes to work Sunday through Thursday. I spent most of the day getting ready for the upcoming 2011 Garden Expo art show. Well, it is more a garden show than an art show, but our 14 South Artists group will have 13 artists in a large booth selling our garden art. Ann and I did run into town for lunch and a few items. On the way back home, I did stop to get a few shots for today’s Picture-Of-The-Day. Then Ann wanted to watch some football game on TV. No racing yet, so that was OK and allowed me to get some things done for the Garden Expo. I have lots to do in less than three weeks. So back at it.

Day 378, January 22, 2011 – Zamboni

Zamboni

Another work all day, then off to dinner with hockey friends, then off to the University of Wisconsin Men’s Hockey game and finally, Picture-Of-The-Day time! Lots of hockey shots, but been there, done that. So what about the Zamboni or the plural of Zamboni, since there are two in this shot. A little post processing to bring out the red!

Tomorrow, I have off, then work four days, then off two and then back to Sunday to Thursday schedule. Now I have to schedule vacation for 6 racing trips, four art fairs and six work days at the Door County Art League’s Gallery, not to mention vacation for Ann and I. That sums up January to December 2011. Work is really, really getting in the way of life!
