A Big One

Sometimes aircraft come into Madison Wisconsin that normally are not expected. Today that happened. A Russian Antonov AN-124-100 came into Madison. Pat called me up and let me know it was here in Madison, so after work I went out and took a few shots. This is the world’s largest serially manufactured cargo aircraft. It has a wingspan of 240 feet, it is 226 feet long and 68 feet tall. It is one big aircraft. Why it is in Madison? I do not know.

Day 506, May 30, 2011 – Full Open

Today was a holiday for me at work and Ann of course. Today we mowed lawn. Always a fun job. I have said it before, with all the technology and plant science we have, why can’t grass only grow to 3 inches tall? That should be simple after sending a man to the moon, cloning sheep and a herd of other science greats. But in any case, we mow lawn.

When we were done with lawn, We started to whip our yard into shape. That will be an all summer job. I cleaned out the tomato patch and planted the tomatoes. We use raised beds. One for tomatoes, one for peppers, one for asparagus, and one for peas, squash, etc. Today I added one for strawberries. Our old strawberry bed was too shady. I got the new raised bed built and filled with dirt. I also planted the strawberries. I also cleaned out the pepper bed and planed the peppers. To me, getting the garden in always means the start of summer.

Day 505, May 29, 2011 – Newbie

I worked all day, so Newbie came through and posed for my Picture-Of-The-Day image. I did not have time to take a picture before it got dark. It was foggy this morning and I could not find a good shot. Then it rained and I could not find a good shot. Then I worked inside the rest of the day and I could not find a good shot. I came home and Newbie stepped up. Good son.

Day 504, May 28, 2011 – My Door County Art

My Door County Art

This is the picture of my section at the Door County Art League Gallery in Fish Creek, Door County, Wisconsin, USA, Earth. Each of the 34 artist in the gallery get one section to display their art. After picking up a few items at the Dane County Farmer’s Market this morning, about 6:30 am, I headed up to Door County to hang my art at the gallery. I was also scheduled to work 1 to 5 today. Each artist puts in 9 shifts over the course of the season, May to October. Today was my first shift, since the gallery just opened yesterday. I needed to get my art hung and ready. It was a long day, but fun. Seeing friends, talking art with other artists and having a great day for driving, no rain or snow. Overall a good day.

Day 503, May 27, 2011 – The Ducky and The Princess

The Ducky and The Princess

Princes has felt a little left out in the Picture of the Day process. Tonight we acquired a new ducky, so Princess got to pose with the new member of our family. We were looking for Red Ducky, Blue Ducky and White Ducky for this weekend, but could not find any.

Another full day here in Wisconsin. I was getting ready for the opening of the Door County Art League’s Gallery in Fish Creek, Door County, Wisconsin. I was selecting my art, labeling my art, making sure all is ready for showing. Tomorrow we are up early for the Dane County Farmer’s Market. After that, I head to Door County and Ann heads to Jefferson County. I will drive up to Door County, Fish Creek, and the Top of the Hill Shops where our Gallery is located. I will then hank my art and work until 5, so stop in and see me! I will then drive home because I have to work on Sunday, but I will get Monday off! Only to work around the house, lots of work around our house!

Day 502, May 26, 2011 – Married 38 Years Today!

Married 38 Years!

Today was our Anniversary. 38 years married today. So we went out to Paisan’s. They are a local Madison restaurant that has been around as long as I have, since 1950. Pizza, salads, pasta and lots more. Great food and if you are lucky enough  to get a window table, a very great view.  Tonight we were lucky. We split a pizza, pasta with meatballs & an Italian sausage, spicy cheese bread and had a small porta salad each. We took home pizza and pasta. A great meal at one of our favorite Madison restaurants.

Day 500, May 24, 2011 – Number 500!

Number 500!

A milestone today. A Picture taken and posted every day for 500 days! 500 Picture-Of-The-Day images posted. The number 500 has come up and will be coming a lot this week. Yesterday I put on about 500 miles driving. Today 500 Pictures taken. The image is a Mayapple Flower and we have about 500 in and around our property. This weekend will be the Indy 500. I get 500 pennies for lunch every day. The number 500 is king this week!

I must take my Picture-Of-The-Day in the same day as I post it, my rule. Last night that was at one minute to midnight! Most days are not that late. Most days I have no problem finding a subject. But there are those days where the picture is a struggle to find. Sometimes our kids, Princess and Newbie pitch in and pose for me. Every day for the last 500 days has been an adventure. It also has been fun and challenging.

Will there be 500 more? I do not know. I might get hit by a bus tomorrow. I might be trapped someplace without an internet connection. You never know. But, I plan on keep taking for a long while.

Day 498, May 22, 2011 – Approaching Storm

Approaching Storm

May has been like March for weather. Lots of stormy weather so far this month. Today was nice until after I got off work. Then I ran into heavy rain and hail on the way home. Then stormy weather tonight. We could not mow lawn or grill out. Oh well, that is life.

Tomorrow will be a busy day for me. Up early at 4:15 am and be to work at 7. Leave at noon and head for Door County. I have a Door County Art League Gallery meeting and then the normal DCAL meeting. Then drive back home, post my 499th Picture-Of-The-Day and head to bed. Up early at 4:15 am for early work on Tuesday. Work and then come home and mow lawn. A busy next few days.
