Day 589, August 21, 2011 – Drive By Blob

Drive By Blob

I ran out of time today for the Picture-Of-The-Day. I worked until 9, got in the car and headed home. I came to a stop light and thought about what image I would take. I captured this image, by far not my best, but it takes only one image to make the Picture-Of-The-Day. I found it interesting on what my camera decided to focus on. But, when you are out of time, just about anything will do. I am too tired to write much. And there is not much to write about tonight.

Day 588, Auguest 20, 2011 – Double Rainbow

Double Rainbow

We finished up at the art show today, had dinner and on our way home we saw this double rainbow. It was that kind of day. First during setup, the rains came, hard for almost two hours. Then it quit and the sun came out. We all rushed to setup by 10. Most of us did, but some were closer to the start time than we were. We did get it done and then started to arrange the prints. Lots of people, a good show, not great, but because of the economy, not bad.

Day 587, August 19, 2011 – Wisconsin Friday Night Fish Fry

Wisconsin Friday Night Fish Fry!

We were in Madison getting stuff done and wanted the typical Wisconsin Friday Night fair, a fish fry! Our normal haunt is the Koffee Kup in Stoughton, but they close at 8 and we were later than that. We ended up at Toby’s, a typical 1960 – 1970’s Supper Club. Most people knew each other and you got a relish tray with dinner. For those ill-informed, a relish tray has carrots, green onions, celery, radishes, and a few carrots, Green Beans, and a few odds & Ends. A very good mneatl

Day 586, August 18, 2011 – Frog At Rest

Frog At Rest

Another day of working late, until 11 pm tonight. Too late to complete my Picture-Of-The-Day before midnight. So, another walk around our yard to see what I have not yet taken a picture of and can use for today’s image. One of our ponds had a herd of frogs, but I could not get a good shot before they leaped away to hide from my camera. Finally I found one resting among the old cattails that was OK with being captured with my camera.

Working late means I cannot cook dinner for Ann and myself. I have to eat lunch, so cooking for one is not any fun. Today I found a package of vegetables in the freezer that gets prepared in the bag. It looked good, lots of pea pods, some cauliflower and a few carrots. It was in a basil sauce and the picture looked really good. I made it and dumped it on my plate. It was just about all carrots, some cauliflower and a few pea pods. It was OK, but the abundance of carrots when I expected an abundance of pea pods was a disappointment. I have nothing against carrots, I like them, but not as many as was in the package when I expected more pea pods.

I like to cook, but not for myself. So today I eat standing up over the kitchen sink my plate of microwaved vegetables thinking I could have done a far better job of this meal myself. I think of the peppers, tomatoes, fresh basil and oregano in the garden and wonder when I will be able to make grilled pizza with ingredients fresh from our garden for Ann and I. I hope soon, the summer is winding down fast.

Day 585, August 17, 2011 – Summer Front Yard

Summer Front Yard

My work schedule is screwed up again. I have to go into work late this afternoon and work until 11 pm. Not fun. I will have to do that schedule again tomorrow too. I have work to do for Saturday’s Agora Art Show and I can get it done in the morning, but would rather do it in the evening and be able to see Ann. I guess it will be temporary. I just have so much going on that I make plans many months ahead, so it is hard to change course.

Day 584, August 16, 2011 – Biplane Sunset

Biplane Sunset

Tonight I went to photograph a 1929 biplane and ended up getting a ride in the biplane. There is something so peaceful and relaxing about flying in the small aircraft. You are more in touch with the world around you. You are not herded into long tubes with small windows and crammed so tight into your seat, that you have to go into the aisle to change your mind. Flying commercial is nothing like flying in a small plane. Flying in a biplane is even better yet because of the open cockpit you are more in tune with your surroundings. The blue sky, the white clouds and the green of the earth mixed together with rivers, buildings, farmer’s fields create a landscape you cannot see from 35,000 feet. It was a nice break from my normal day, week, month or year. It was fun and relaxing.

Day 583, August 15, 2011 – Door County Cream Puff

Door County Cream Puff

A great way to finish off a great meal. Fresh Door County Cherries used as filling around fresh cream puffs. Really great food, Thanks Kaia! The meal was the topping to a great day with friends. Long time friends. It was good to get together. Any time spent among such good friends brings true the sign I have over my monitor; “Live well – Laugh often – Love much”

Day 582, August 14, 2011 – Yellow Delight

Yellow Delight

Back to work today and I ended up working late. I expected to be able to go out and take some pictures because it was a nice day here in Wisconsin. So after work, out into the wilds of our yard to see what I could come up with. I like bright colors, so these yellow flowers caught my eye. I also liked the contrast between the yellows and greens. They really pop. Also, they were in the shadows of late afternoon, so that gave the image some contrast too. I guess I lucked out.

Day 581, August 13, 2011 – State Fair Eagle

State Fair Eagle

This Eagle was imprinted by humans when very young, so it cannot be released back into the wild. It is too bad, this is a magnificent bird. We always try to get to the WE Energies area for a number of reasons. One, is they normally have Birds of Prey show. Two, is Chef Mark. He makes a recipe and then everyone in attendance gets some of the featured item. It is always Great Eats. Third, is the garden talk, giving us great garden and plant information.

This year’s Wisconsin State Fair was cut short due to storms passing through the area. Heavy rains canceled some of the outdoor events and since we had already seen all the inside stuff we wanted to see, we headed home after only 9 hours at the fair, 3 to 4 hours short of our normal go home time. It rained off and on most of the way home. We stopped in Jefferson for a burger, one of the best in Wisconsin. I will upload Fair pictures and Brewer pictures from this weekend soon.
