Day 903, June 30, 2012 – Princess Close-up

Princess Close-up

A full day in Milwaukee for a 4th of July picnic/party. Not much time for Picture-Of-The-Day. Princess stepped up and I was playing with the iPhone & the new lenses. I like playing with the Fish Eye lens for my iPhone. She was a little hot because our AC decided to quit working. So the house is a little warm for our critters. It has been hot, no rain, and not too much cloud cover for shade for weeks. The AC has been running 24/7 for weeks. We hope to get it fixed Monday. Princess put her paw down and we have to get it fixed before we leave for Door County.

Day 902, June 29, 2012 – Friday Night Cranes

Friday Night Cranes

On Fright nights, Ann and I are like cats. Cats have routines. On Friday nights, Ann and I have routines. I work Sunday through Thursday, Friday is my Saturday. Ann is off now on Friday’s for a while. So we ran all over Madison and beyond for most of the day. The normal routine is we leave for dinner at Springers. We take a long way around, past a few parks, past a lock and dam, and into one of Wisconsin’s State Parks. We check out the lake views, then head out the long way to Springers past many lake homes. On our way, we cross a railroad tracks. Since early Spring, a pair of Cranes have been around the crossing. Either right on the tracks, next to the tracks or around the tracks, until tonight, then they were about 30 yards away from the tracks on someone’s front yard. We pulled over as normal, took a few shots, spoke to them, asked them how their crane day was going, and then continued on with our routine. Once at Springers on the lake, we had a drink, then off to our table for a Wisconsin Friday Night Fish Fry (or Fish Bake for me)! A great meal, overlooking the lake and with great service.

Day 901, June 28, 2012 – Catnip And The Bee

Catnip An The Bee

I wanted to play with my Macro lens today. The sun was a little bright for what I wanted to do. It is real dry so lots of the images I wanted to capture were not in prime condition. We always have catnip and it seems to grow in any condition, too dry or too wet. There were lots of bees also out working hard in the heat.

Day 900, June 27, 2012 – Frog At Club 900

Frog At Club 900

There might not be a Club 900. At least for frogs. It is too bad, at least for the frogs. This is my 900th Picture-Of-The-Day posting. 900 days in a row of taking a Picture-Of-The-Day and posting it the same day. I feel pretty good about this milestone. When I started out 900 days ago, I did not know if I could make one year, 365 days in a row.

It has been fun. I have learned a lot. I have acquired many friends on the different sites that I post on. I have enjoyed seeing their images and their comments. This project has forced me to look at the world in a different way. I see more detail, look at the lighting differently and always have my camera within reach. I have learned new Photoshop techniques. I have been humbled by the great body of work that other 365’ers have posted. But overall, I have had fun. I do not know if I will make 900 more days, but I want to make it to January 10, 2013, three years into the project. Then it is just another image, another day, and another opportunity to capture something cool.

Day 899, June 26, 2012 – Orange Delight

Orange Delight

Flowers are the norm for a while. I like this Lily because of the colors and the back-lighting. Even if it is way too dry, flowers are still blooming. Our front yard looks like Fall with all the birch leaves littering our yard. We are watering as much as we can, trees, garden and flowers, not the grass.

Day 898, June 25, 2012 – The Day Is Done

The Day Is Done

I worked late today and the sun was starting to set when I was walking out to my car. I knew I had to take a quick shot or work out something at home inside because it would be dark when I got home. The Day is done and I was happy. I did not get a break or lunch today, just too busy. I was glad to see the sun set on this day.

Day 897, June 24, 2012 – Yellow Bouquet

Yellow Bouquet

Well after two days of full time racing at Road America, it is back to work today. I ended up working late, so with no rain in weeks, maybe months, there was some watering to do when I got home from work. A quick walk around the yard gave me today’s Picture-Of-The-Day image. It is dry, so we have to water to keep the flowers blooming and the shade plants happy. The garden is doing fine with regular watering and weeding. I like flowers and this natural bouquet is cook, but the sound, color and speed of racing is far more interesting to me to photograph. More of a challenge too, but I have to work for a living, so the days between racing ends up in nature. The color of nature still does continue to amaze me and draw me in.

Day 896, June 23, 2012 – Winning Team

Winning Team

After a very good NASCAR Nationwide race at Road America, Nelson Piquet Jr. won. Overall a great day, another day at a race track. Another 1100 images captured. Some of the crew members I knew from ARCA, moved up to Nationwide and are happy. It was good to see them again and find them having fun. More races than ARCA, more pressure, but still fun. This image was the first of the race winner “Hat Dance” that happens at every major race. I think today there was over 15 different hats passed out to everyone, pictures taken for each hat by the media. This weekend I was one of the media, so my access was more than just a fan. I have to write up a story on this weekend racing at Road America for an Internet publication and then think about the next ARCA race in a few weeks. But for now, it is back to work tomorrow, so I better get to bed because 6 am (I get to sleep in on Sundays) comes around fast.

Day 895, June 22, 2012 – Three Wheel Turn SIx

Three Wheel Turn SIx

I had a hard time picking today’s Picture-Of-The-Day image from over 600 images I took at Road America. I normally would have taken more shots, but I spent time waiting for different driver shots in the pits. In any case I had a hard time picking today’s image. On the way home, a two hour drive, I was running through my head several shots that I remember liking when I took them. This was one of them.

Ann and I will be heading back up early tomorrow morning for the qualifying and the races. It should be a good day. Of course any day spent at a race track is a good day.

Day 894, June 21, 2012 – More Lilies

More Lilies

Today, as many of you know, is my late night at work, from 3 pm to 11 pm. I have to get my image posted before work because there is not enough time after work to post by midnight. A quick trip around our dry yard did not give me many image possibilities. Lilies are in bloom and not much else. Racing images are in store for the next two days, then I do not know what will catch my eye.
